database to a relational database over the years.  I began using FileMaker in 1984 for my clients database needs.  The last few versions allow you to take a text file or Excel file and “drop” the file onto the FileMaker application icon and will create a basic database with the data contained in the file.  This feature can save the new database user hours creating a database.  Stop exporting your data to a spreadsheet to only have to reformat the file each time you do a new export of data.

We encourage our clients to look at FileMaker and learn the basics of databases and FileMaker to move toward the new and improved Swiss Army Knife.  Databases are the future... and the future is here NOW!

David has created many FileMaker databases as add-ons for use with MYOB to create reports not possible from MYOB.  Take a minute and look at our web page for a complete listing of our MYOB add-ons.  We can also customize many solutions to use with MYOB or as a stand alone solution for just about any need.

DNS Patch

The DNS Vulnerability:  What You Should Know & Do...

Excerpts From MacWorld Article Aug 4, 2008

Complete article can be found at:                      http://www.macworld.com/article/134823/2008/08/dns.html

On July 31, 2008 Apple released a security patch to deal with the DNS vulnerability, a major security issue that should be applied ASAP.  This vulnerability effects all computers, both laptops and desktops.  If exploited on an Internet service provider (ISP) or company DNS server, an attacker would be able to redirect any user to a destination of his or her choosing.  With attack tools in wide use, it’s critical that anyone using Mac OS X Server as a reclusive DNS server immediately apply Apple’s patch.  On July 8, 2008, an unprecedented massive multivendor patch was released, and promoted by US-CERT, the United States Computer Emergency Response Team, that helps disseminate critical computer security information.

Take a minute and check your software versions with the list above.  Stay up to date.

For years the spreadsheet applications such as Excel and AppleWorks have been the computer user’s Swiss Army Knife.  A tool to do just about anything needed.  We use spreadsheets for everything from adding up numbers, to producing reports and forms.  With the massive amounts of data we are reading and collecting today, I feel the database application should become our NEW Swiss Army Knife for many of those uses.  The best cross platform database application available today is FileMaker Pro.  FileMaker has been around since 1984.  FileMaker has evolved from a flat file
